John 6, 52-59

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6, 52-59

The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying,
“How can this man give us his Flesh to eat?”
Jesus said to them,
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and drink his Blood,
you do not have life within you.
Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood
has eternal life,
and I will raise him on the last day.
For my Flesh is true food,
and my Blood is true drink.
Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood
remains in me and I in him.
Just as the living Father sent me
and I have life because of the Father,
so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.
This is the bread that came down from heaven.
Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died,
whoever eats this bread will live forever.”
These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

God feeds you

  1. Life. You are called to live life fully; you are not a dead being. You must have Christ in your heart so you can enjoy life. A Christian has life in Christ through the sacraments, through prayer, through works of charity. Try to take care of these pillars of your faith in your daily life. That will lead you to life, true life, which is Christ, who satiates you, who nourishes you. Don’t give up! Live your life in Christ, with him.
  2. My flesh. In the Eucharist you discover that God wants to satiate you with Christ’s flesh and blood and with his love. Don’t be spiritually undernourished! Jesus nourishes you in the Eucharist and that is a great joy.
  3. Communion. This is a point that we should pray for today. Why is it so hard for us to create community? There are times when we don’t seek that healing spiritual communion. Our endless pastoral activities and our fast-paced lifestyle can lead us to forget our brothers and sisters. Let’s ask God today for the gift of the community, the gift of communion.
Don’t forget something good is on the way.

God bless you and guard you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
