John 15, 9-11

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 15, 9-11

Jesus said to his disciples:
“As the Father loves me, so I also love you.
Remain in my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love,
just as I have kept my Father’s commandments
and remain in his love.

“I have told you this so that
my joy might be in you and
your joy might be complete.”

Remaining in his love

1. As the Father loves me. It is interesting to see that Jesus begins speaking about love from the very source of love: God, the Father. You can’t give what you don’t have. If you really want to give something to others, you have to look at yourself, accept yourself, discover the potential that God put in you and also accept your weaknesses and your mistakes. Because to feel loved by God is to feel accepted just as you are. So, today look at yourself and accept yourself, and get ready to walk in life giving yourself as you are and without expecting others to love you or to defend you. Don’t waste your life waiting for others to solve things for you, much less for others to make you feel loved so that you can begin to love yourself. God loves you just as you are.

2. Remain. Sometimes, the accelerated lifestyle you live may lead you to forget the essential, the point of why and what you live for. You can’t go through life wandering around trying to go one way and then the other. Go back to what shaped your life, to your initial life project; remember what you dreamed of and what you wanted for yourself. Power, a position, fame will not give you the satisfaction that fulfilling your life objective will bring.

3. Joy. You must remember that happiness is not about money or power; happiness is an attitude, not a feeling. It’s a way of looking and the capacity to see things from God’s point of view. Remain in God and in what is essential in you, everything else comes and goes. Today, are you enjoying your life or are you only focusing on your worries? Joy or sadness and complaints are in your hands. What do you choose? You decide, God is always at your side. Always remember something good is on the way!God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
