Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 8, 23-27
As Jesus got into a boat, his disciples followed him.
Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea,
so that the boat was being swamped by waves;
but he was asleep.
They came and woke him, saying,
“Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
He said to them, “Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?”
Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea,
and there was great calm.
The men were amazed and said, “What sort of man is this,
whom even the winds and the sea obey?”
Faith
1. A volent storm. There are moments in life when everything seems to go well, and others when nothing seems to work. But there are also those moments that define you because you feel like you’ve hit rock bottom, that nothing is going your way. When you live beautiful moments and experiences with God, write them down in your personal journal so that when hard, painful times come your way (and they will come), you can read and recall the experience of God’s presence. It’s a reminder that God is with you even when everything feels dark, when you can’t see clearly and you’re not able to stand firm. In those unstable moments, fear and anguish creep in because you don’t know what will happen with your life. The hardest thing for a person is instability and uncertainty. Have you ever experienced moments like this? During this moment of prayer, think about the times when you felt uncertainty, when you were at your worse. This reflection will help you realize that today you might be drowning in a glass of water… when you look back and see that you’ve already been through worse moments.
2. He was asleep. During tough times, you might have the impression that God has disappeared, it’s as if you don’t feel Him or see Him, leaving you feeling lonely and even angry with Him. You might not want to talk to Him. Have you experienced this? God’s silence unsettles me, leads me to frustration with Him, and even with myself.
3. Calm. When we turn to God, He acts and brings us calm. But God acts in His own time. We must recognize that He is God, and He shows His power when we least expect it. Ask Jesus to bring calm to your life, to help you find that peace which one cannot achieve alone. Pray for Him to appear in your life to give you the peace that only God can give. Pray for faith to trust and peace to move forward.
Never forget that something good is on the way.
God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
