Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 7, 31-35
Jesus said to the crowds:
“To what shall I compare the people of this generation?
What are they like?
They are like children who sit in the marketplace and call to one another,
‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance.
We sang a dirge, but you did not weep.’
For John the Baptist came neither eating food nor drinking wine,
and you said, ‘He is possessed by a demon.’
The Son of Man came eating and drinking and you said,
‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard,
a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’
But wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”
Wisdom
1. This generation. We live in a world where everything is a matter of opinion, and truth is measured by what the majority says rather than what is verifiable. We live in a generation where those who think differently become your enemies, and everyone manipulates others with guilt to get what they want. It’s a generation where being kind makes people want to take advantage of you, and everyone looks out for themselves. Rather than trying to explain this generation, as Jesus does, sometimes our only job is to survive it.
2. Those lads. You will never please everyone. There will always be people who criticize you and dislike what you do. The problem isn’t who criticizes or gives their opinion; the problem is how much importance we give to every single opinion. Sometimes you have to filter what people say. If you only do things to please others, you might end up displeasing yourself because you no longer recognize who you are.
3. Wisdom. It’s a gift of the Holy Spirit that invites us to savor life. Your life is valuable and all of us who are part of your life are also precious. To savor and contemplate life means to enjoy everything you do and to understand your limits and your potential. To love life means to accept it, and to enjoy it means to embrace it for what it is. Learn to savor life and not to criticize everything and everyone. Don’t be bitter and learn to live. Today, ask Jesus to help you understand that the most beautiful thing about life is simply living it.
Remember, something good is on the way!
God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
