Luke 14, 1-6

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 14, 1-6

On a sabbath Jesus went to dine
at the home of one of the leading Pharisees,
and the people there were observing him carefully.
In front of him there was a man suffering from dropsy.
Jesus spoke to the scholars of the law and Pharisees in reply, asking,
“Is it lawful to cure on the sabbath or not?”
But they kept silent; so he took the man and,
after he had healed him, dismissed him.
Then he said to them
“Who among you, if your son or ox falls into a cistern,
would not immediately pull him out on the sabbath day?”
But they were unable to answer his question.

Healed by God

1. They were observing him. Just as they watched Jesus to find his weak spot, I must also be honest and tell you that all around you, there will be people who will look for your weaknesses. Remember you’ll have to deal with people who’ll try to make things complicated for you. That’s why it’s important to remember who you are and where you want to go in life. The problem is when you get off track and don’t know where to go. Stay focused on your goals, because those observing may act when you lose your way.

2. Dropsy. This is an illness which nowadays we know as edema. Over time, it can get complicated because it causes inflammation, and then it makes your blood pressure rise until it affects your heart. It is a slow-acting illness. That’s how bitterness acts in your life if you hold onto anger, vengeful attitudes or grudges and don’t let go of them. They stay in your heart and keep adding up in your life. They end up ruining your life and then make you angry and bitter about everything, and that’s when your heart finally collapses. Let go of negativity to avoid this spiritual sickness.

3. To heal. Jesus shows us that the important thing is always the person. Beyond all the material things and all the ritualism, people matter most. Stay compassionate, value every individual. Remember that out of a thousand souls, all thousand matter to us. Remember your calling to bring healing and glorify God through your actions.

Never forget that something good is on the way!

God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
