Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 20,1-16
Jesus told his disciples this parable:
“The Kingdom of heaven is like a landowner
who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard.
After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage,
he sent them into his vineyard.
Going out about nine o’clock,
he saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
and he said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard,
and I will give you what is just.’
So they went off.
And he went out again around noon,
and around three o’clock, and did likewise.
Going out about five o’clock,
he found others standing around, and said to them,
‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’
They answered, ‘Because no one has hired us.’
He said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard.’
When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman,
‘Summon the laborers and give them their pay,
beginning with the last and ending with the first.’
When those who had started about five o’clock came,
each received the usual daily wage.
So when the first came, they thought that they would receive more,
but each of them also got the usual wage.
And on receiving it they grumbled against the landowner, saying,
‘These last ones worked only one hour,
and you have made them equal to us,
who bore the day’s burden and the heat.’
He said to one of them in reply,
‘My friend, I am not cheating you.
Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage?
Take what is yours and go.
What if I wish to give this last one the same as you?
Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money?
Are you envious because I am generous?’
Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
Went out at dawn
1) Early morning. Always remember that God is searching for you and coming out to meet you. In many ways, life is a series of encounters with Him. Some people meet Him at the very beginning of their journey; others encounter Him near the end, even after time spent in an ICU. But sooner or later, we all experience that meeting. What matters most is not to ignore it. A true encounter always invites a decision, and every decision has the power to bring change.
2) Standing idle. Some people remain on the sidelines of life, criticizing those who are actually trying to move forward. That’s why I want to encourage you to truly live your life and take action for yourself. Don’t become a spectator of your own story, letting time pass while you forget to live. Set goals. Take steps that are good for you. Learn to care for yourself and love yourself. Stop waiting for a phone call or an invitation from someone else before you begin. Life moves quickly, and you cannot spend it simply watching from the sidelines.
3) Unfair. This is where mercy comes in. Never forget that life offers second chances, and God does too. He will never be outdone in generosity, and His generosity often appears as new opportunities. Still, there are times when only a few chances remain to set your life back on course or begin again. Sometimes there is little time left to regain the trust of those who love you and have gone out of their way for you. Sometimes the patience of those who are supporting you begins to wear thin. Give yourself the opportunity to live fully and rise again by acknowledging your mistakes and learning from them.
Remember that something good is on the way!
God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
