Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 9, 7-9
Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening,
and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying,
“John has been raised from the dead”;
others were saying, “Elijah has appeared”;
still others, “One of the ancient prophets has arisen.”
But Herod said, “John I beheaded.
Who then is this about whom I hear such things?”
And he kept trying to see him.
Some were saying
1) Herod. He represents those who seek recognition and power—not to enrich other people’s lives, but to make themselves the center of attention. They’re the kind of people who show up only to display their authority, gathering information not to learn or contribute, but to protect their own position. Don’t let the pursuit of power make you lose the goodness within you.
2) It is John. When our mistakes weigh on our conscience, the people we’ve disappointed or hurt come to mind. We need to ask for forgiveness in order to let go of the anxiety that holds us back. We all make mistakes, and at some point, we all need to apologize. Asking forgiveness from those we’ve hurt is essential if we want to move forward with a peaceful heart.
3) See Him. We need to learn to recognize what Jesus is offering us today. That’s why your life should be centered on seeking what is good for you and who is good for you. Don’t let anything or anyone rob you of your peace—and once you find what truly brings you peace, learn to value it and protect it.
In many places today, we celebrate Our Lady of Mercy. The Blessed Mother appeared to Saint Peter Nolasco and asked him to help free Christians who had been taken captive by the Moors. At that time, those who openly practiced their Catholic faith were often captured and sold into slavery. Through the Blessed Virgin’s intercession, many Christians were rescued and restored to freedom. Today, let’s ask Our Lady to help us truly appreciate the gift of our Christian faith.
Remember that something good is on the way!
God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
