Luke 14, 1-6

Healed by God

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 14, 1-6

On a sabbath Jesus went to dine
at the home of one of the leading Pharisees,
and the people there were observing him carefully.
In front of him there was a man suffering from dropsy.
Jesus spoke to the scholars of the law and Pharisees in reply, asking,
“Is it lawful to cure on the sabbath or not?”
But they kept silent; so he took the man and,
after he had healed him, dismissed him.
Then he said to them
“Who among you, if your son or ox falls into a cistern,
would not immediately pull him out on the sabbath day?”
But they were unable to answer his question.

Healed by God

1. They were observing Him. Just as people watched Jesus, looking for a weakness, there will be people around you who look for yours. Some may even try to make life more difficult for you. That’s why it’s so important to know who you are and where you’re headed. Problems arise when you lose your direction and no longer know which way to go. Stay focused on your goals, because those watching may take advantage when you lose your way.

2. Dropsy. Today, we know this condition as edema. It causes swelling and, over time, can lead to complications that affect blood pressure and the heart. It develops slowly. Bitterness can work the same way in your life. When you hold on to anger, resentment, or a desire for revenge, those feelings settle in your heart and build up over time. Eventually, they can consume you, leaving you angry and bitter about everything until your heart can’t take any more. Let go of negativity before it becomes a spiritual sickness.

3. To heal. Jesus shows us that the person always comes first. Beyond material things and religious rituals, people matter most. Be compassionate and value every individual. If there are a thousand souls, all one thousand matter. Remember that you’re called to bring healing and glorify God through your actions.

Never forget that something good is on the way!

God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
