Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 21,1-4
When Jesus looked up he saw some wealthy people putting their offerings into the treasury
and he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins.
He said, “I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest;
for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood.”
What one leaves behind
- The rich: in the gospel it refers to the people that have religious beliefs but deliver very little to others. The gospel is speaking about It the person who gives little back in order only to fulfill moral obligations. Giving does not come from the heart, but only for appearances sake. Their material richness is superficial because they believe they are doing God a favor. They rather take care of their money than spend time with God.
- The widow: she gives herself completely to God. She doesn’t depend on herself so she feels limited and her security is given completely to God. She has nothing but God. The widow gives us the example of complete surrender through her life and wholeheartedly. The widow represents each person that says Jesus I trust you completely.
- The offering: this is a reflection to think what we give. What have you given to God today? What do you offer God as well? It is important to ponder what you are coming today to deliver God. Your life means struggle and it is a daily task. It is clear what you are asking God, but what are you giving? Take a piece of paper and think of five things you are willing to offer God.
God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
And remember, Heaven is Our Goal !
