My Lord and my God, I firmly believe that you are here, that you see me, that you hear me.  I adore you with profound reverence. Going to the Holly Week

Lord today is Tuesday of the fifth week of Lent, and in just five days from now we are going to enter the Holy Week by celebrating the Palm Sunday.  Sadly this year, due to the corona virus pandemic, we won’t be able to celebrate together, as there are restrictions imposed on crowd gathering; of course we are always ready to take prudent measures, and obey the directives from both, the civil and ecclesiastical authorities, the sake of the common good.   However, Lord, so many people really miss you, especially when they are deprived of the gift of yourself through the Holy Communion.  We priests will continue to celebrate the sacrifice of Holy Mass privately ,while uniting ourselves with the whole church, offering our personal sacrifice for the good of the souls, in this light, I want to thank you Jesus for having instituted the seven sacraments, which are the divine remedies you offer us in our journey toward our eternal homeland. Into this Gospel of John, you said to the Pharisees:“I am going away, and you will look for me but you will die in your sin, where I am going you cannot come”.  You said this because the Pharisees did not believe in You, Jesus, as the promised Messiah, the one who has come into the world to save us from our sins.

But Jesus, you are so loved worried that the Heavenly Father sent you to this troubled world of ours to call all sinners to repentance by accepting you as the divine remedy.  We can be cured of our sinfulness illness, through the sacraments of Baptism, confession and of the sick, we can be nourished by your holy pardon blood, through the sacrament of the Eucharist, which also strengthens the ban of love through the sacrament of holy matrimony, and we can be strengthened also by outpouring of the Holy Spirit through the sacraments of confirmation of Holy Orders, which are at the service of others. Yes Jesus, I am a sinner, without your divine remedies I am sure to die in my sinfulness, however, you remind us that you do not desire the death of the sinner but rather that he should be converted and live.

Lord’s desire

Precisely Lord, your most profound desire is to save all of us from our sinfulness and lead us to our eternal Kingdom, and the most wonderful thing about you Jesus is that not only you tell us all that is wrong with us, but that you offer us the remedies to solve our problems. You are not just giving us a recipe, a manual of instructions, a blueprint for us to implement on our own. Of course, we need all of them and we have to use them well because without a recipe the food will turn out less than appetizing, because without a manual of instruction we end up breaking the gadget, or them a chine so we have to plug it into the electric outlet, because without a blueprint I will surely make a mess of my building or construction Project.  During this pandemic, many people have realized more acutely the importance of frequent and proper hand washing, of observing the proper coughing and sneezing etiquette, of a regularly cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surf aces such as toys and door handles; these are important preventative me as sure. Also important are the remedies to boost one’s immune system, of which there are many. However, very important remedies for our soul’s health and well-being are offered by our divine physician Jesus our Lord through the sacraments.

Divine Grace

Lord, the sacraments you have instituted are kits of science, through which you give us your divine grace and strength. Through them you do not merely offer some good advice, or give a set of instructions, or helpful hints, you do much more than that.  A little further on into this gospel, you said to the Pharisees that “you belong to  what is below, but I belong to what is above ”then you emphasize it again by saying to them “you belong to this world, but I do not belong to this world”.  Lord, I firmly believe that you are the son of God sent by the Heavenly father to rescue us, to heal us, and to save us.  You are from above, you came down from heaven to dwell on us here below to take up all our sinfulness and misery, up on your sacred humanity.  You do not belong to this world because you belong to heaven, yet you brought two remedies from heaven to all of us here below languishing, under the burden of moral, psychological, emotional and spiritual diseases and illnesses.  You are not a distant God, you are not a thoughtless God, you’re not an indifferent God, rather the very opposite of all that.  Since you care for us so much, since our wounds and bruises make your sacred heart bleed, since our lack of charity toward others make you shed tears, you’ve offered yourself as the divine remedy for all our problems, troubles and sufferings. Yes Jesus, John the Baptist rightly pointed toward you, then he said to his disciples (he speaks in Hebrew) “Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”.  You came into this world as a sacrificial lamb, when you offered yourself on the cross to be immolated for our sins; our heavenly Father accepted you as the infinitely, valuable and appeasing sacrificial victim for man’s transgressions for all eternity.  For just a singular action on your part, God the Father gave you the supreme universal power over the entire creation, He confirmed it when you said to the Apostles after the resurrection,“ all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me, therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you, and surely I’m with you always to the very end of the age.”

Power and authority

Yes Jesus, all the seven sacraments yet instituted derived efficacy from the divine power and authority, all the sacraments are means by which you continue to offer us your divine remedies.  As the Catechism says sacraments are powers that come forth from the body of Christ, which is ever living and life-giving. There are actions of the Holy Spirit at work in its body the church, they are the master works of God in the new and everlasting covenant; that is why invites us to turn our gaze to a jewel now and always.  Continuing with our prayer with today’s Gospel passage, we hear these words of our divine physician, “when you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am he that I can do nothing of my own accord what I say is what the father has taught to me”, Lord when you said this, that you have lifted up, you’re pointing toward the Calvary and the cross upon which will offer yourself as the Lamb of God.  To heavenly Father, the redemption of the world, and through your redemptive sacrifices the gates of heaven were opened up, there a torrent of God’s grace began to fall upon the face of the earth to all his inhabitants to rescue us, to heal us and to sanctify us.  These divine Graces continue to touch us, to transform us and heal us through the seven sacraments you have instituted. But these days, due to the lockdown and church closures, so many of the faithful are deprived of the sacramental graces. So Jesus, How can we be? How can you still benefit us from the divine remedies? What about baptism? Many people have been preparing to receive the sacrament of initiation through the RCI program, now the Baptism already postponed, is there are me dy for that? Well yes, in a way.  While nothing can substitute the sacramental grace itself, historically the church has taught that the grace of baptism can be received, not only through the administration of the sacrament itself, which is baptismal water, but also through the desire of the sacrament called “baptism of desire” or through martyrdom for Christ called “baptism of blood.”

The baptism

Recent doctrinal development has made it clear that is possible for one to receive baptism of desire but implicit desire, this is  a principle that makes it possible for non-Christians to be saved if they are genuinely committed to seeking and living it by the truth, and they are implicitly committed to seeking Christ and living by His commandments. What about confession? Again, many people are deprived of this divine healing remedy in this regard, the Pope said recently the following: he said, “It is very clear if you cannot find a priest to confess to, speak directly with God, your father, and tell him the truth.  Say ‘Lord I did this, this, this.  Forgive me,’ and ask for pardon with all your heart.” The Pope then urged us to make an act of contrition and the promise to confess individually as soon as we are able to.  And what about the Holy Communion? During these days Lord, is quite difficult to see the body and blood, the very source of all sacramental graces,I truly miss you, for this reason I want instead to say the spiritual communion prayer, often as composed and recommended by Pope Francis, in this way with the help of your mother and continue to foster my desire, the benefit from you, the divine remedy for all my many needs, soon to say with the Pope as we finish hese 10 minutes of prayer with you Jesus: “My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the altar. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart … I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.”

It’s the end

I thank you my God for the good resolutions, affections and inspirations that you have communicated to me in this meditation.  I ask for your help to put them into effect.  My Immaculate mother, Saint Joseph, my Father and Lord, my guardian angel intercede for me.
