Matthew 17,1-9

Matthew, 17 1-9

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 17,1-9

Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother,  and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”
When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid.
But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.”
And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone.
As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, “Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

Change the face

1) He took them: Jesus takes his friends to the highest part, to that place where he was going to meet his Father God. You and I have this task, to take our friends to meet God. To go together with them to the highest part, to attain that experience of God. That is your task and mine, but notice how Jesus did it; he was neither imposing nor insisting… He invited them with closeness and fraternity. Sometimes we are a bit insistent to lead people to God and sometimes we even fall into a fanatic attitude that can lead people away or they just get tired . I repeat again, it is in closeness and brotherhood; walking together; this leads others to God. Let’s not impose an encounter with God… let’s suggest it.

2) Get up: Jesus encourages us not to be afraid. In this walk fear paralyzes and stagnates us. Do not think so much about it, you have to act bravely and keep on going because God is on your side. You can give a lot, but that fear traps you and brings you down. Fear leads you to give up you forget to look towards the future. In your personal prayer ask Jesus to help you overcome this fear; to be able to face it and overcome it. Once you overcome the fear, you will be able to walk with assurance through life.

3) Do not comment: Jesus asks for prudence. Today he also asks you and me to be careful. One thing is to keep silent about the truth, and another is knowing when you have to tell the truth. Today Jesus teaches us that we have to learn that the truth must be told at certain moments and not at just any moment. Today, unfortunately, we give our opinion on everything. There is a very good program that I watch on YouTube called “Let’s talk without knowing”. It is very funny, and it humorously shows us that we talk about many things believing that we knowabout them. In that program there’s someone who is called: ” The Expert in almost everything”. It is possible that you and I often wear that badge.

Be cautious, and if you don’t know something, don’t say anything. Staying silent, but open to learning new things is healthier than giving an opinion which only seeks to subdue others.
God bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Remember, when you go out give thanks to God for this beautiful day…and remember Heaven is our goal !
