Luke 4, 14-22

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 4, 14-22

Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country. He began to teach in their synagogues and was praised by everyone.
When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:
‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
 because he has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’
And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, ‘Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.’ All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They said, ‘Is not this Joseph’s son?’

God is sending you

1.Teaching. Jesus has the strength to teach and act since he comes from the Holy Father. It is through prayer and closeness with God that you can find the necessary strength to confront daily life. Talk to God in your own style and manner, but look for the moment where you can recharge your batteries and meet with Him. This also teaches others your love for God that lives in you.

2.Announce and be free. This is your task, and we can summarize it in “live charity.” Charity is the ability to wish well to others and help others live well. It is letting another person inside your life. Our love for the poor implies helping the person who is empty inside and cannot find the sense of life. We are rich since we hold Jesus in our hearts.

3.One-year grace period. This allows us to discover that Christians are not bad omen birds or calamity prophets that only announce negative things. We are called to proclaim that we are men and women of good and we smile at life with hope. Today, I invite you to be a pilgrim who announces and takes peace to all.

May God bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Always remember that Heaven is our goal
