Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 1, 14-20

After John had been arrested,
Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God:
“This is the time of fulfillment.
The Kingdom of God is at hand.
Repent, and believe in the Gospel.”

As he passed by the Sea of Galilee,
he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea;
they were fishermen.
Jesus said to them,
“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Then they left their nets and followed him.
He walked along a little farther
and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John.
They too were in a boat mending their nets.
Then he called them.
So they left their father Zebedee in the boat
along with the hired men and followed him.

Make this ordinary time in the year extraordinary

  1. Conversion. When we are on vacation or when we come back from our vacation, it is a good time to think about what we did the previous year, what we did right, and what we didn’t and we must not repeat this year, so that we learn from past mistakes. We must fix things that have to change and turn things around for the better. Those of us who work must meditate on the things we have to change in order for our life to be better and help us grow. Think of what you do or what you have. Do these things make you a better person? Maybe this is our opportunity to begin fresh and new, like a new book.
  2. Choice. Jesus chooses twelve people and calls them by their name, giving them thus their identity. Jesus takes on their lives and immerses Himself in every aspect of it. God chose you, but He does not take away your identity, on the contrary, He raises it and gives it full sense. You are called upon to participate. It is your mission in this world to find your purpose to live. The choice of this purpose requires that you learn to give up certain things.
  3. Action. God calls upon you not to be a spectator, rather a participant in taking his word to others. God asks you to be his instrument to serve him, the way you are. He asks you to be normal to serve with love and help others.

May God bless you and the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Always remember, Heaven is our goal!
