John 14, 27-31a

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 14, 27-31a

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives do I give it to you.
Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.
You heard me tell you,
‘I am going away and I will come back to you.’
If you loved me,
you would rejoice that I am going to the Father;
for the Father is greater than I.
And now I have told you this before it happens,
so that when it happens you may believe.
I will no longer speak much with you,
for the ruler of the world is coming.
He has no power over me,
but the world must know that I love the Father
and that I do just as the Father has commanded me.”

Today’s Gospel is encouraging

1) Peace. I’m sure that is what you and I are looking for. Nothing can be achieved without inner peace. The peace that Jesus gives you is profound and allows you to understand that you are in His hands. The peace that God gives doesn’t instantly solve all your problems, but it relieves and strengthens you so you can face the problems. We all have problems and temptations; the important thing is how we face them. Pray to God and ask Him to help you.

2) Do not worry or fear. These are two important words to remember every day. Something you should always keep in mind is that God asks you not to worry, not to fear. It’s true that life hits us hard sometimes and we can lose control. Don’t be afraid because He is always with you.

3) The greatness of God is His mercy. Remember that God conquers everything. No matter how great the temptation, do not give in, because God is with you.

God bless you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Always remember that Heaven is our goal
