Luke 21, 5-11

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 21, 5-11

When some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, Jesus said, “As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down.” They asked him, “Teacher, when will this be, and what will be the sign that this is about to take place?” And he said, “Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name and say, ‘I am he!’ and, ‘The time is near!’ Do not go after them. “When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for these things must take place first, but the end will not follow immediately.” Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and plagues; and there will be dreadful portents and great signs from heaven.”

There will be signs

1) Costly stones. Today, let’s discuss one of our most common weaknesses:  living only for the sake of appearances. We must fight against our desire to impress others. There are people that go through life doing things to impress as if they were in a fashion show and as such, have no substance, only show. Of course, they can have a superficial impact, but there will be no depth.  It is often hard to distinguish when we do things only to be recognized or praised.

2) Stability. You must look for stability and seek refuge in God. God gives us answers and our life has a deeper meaning if He is at the center. You reach stability when you see who and what you can count on. Stability in life means knowing who you are and not depending on what others say. God is always with you and must guide your life. He knows your strengths and weaknesses, so work within yourself to find Jesus. Your stability is Jesus.

3) The second coming. There will always be painful and tragic events and catastrophes, but our faith leads us to God and we must find comfort in Him. Do not fear what you have to go through, God is with us always and we must think that in the end when we will see Him face to face. We can overcome anything because He is with us always.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And remember, Heaven is our goal !
