John 6, 22-29

Do not work for food that perishes

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6, 22-29

The next day, the crowd that remained across the sea
saw that there had been only one boat there,
and that Jesus had not gone along with his disciples in the boat,
but only his disciples had left.
Other boats came from Tiberias
near the place where they had eaten the bread
when the Lord gave thanks.
When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there,
they themselves got into boats
and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus.
And when they found him across the sea they said to him,
“Rabbi, when did you get here?”
Jesus answered them and said,
“Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me
not because you saw signs
but because you ate the loaves and were filled.
Do not work for food that perishes
but for the food that endures for eternal life,
which the Son of Man will give you.
For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.”
So they said to him,
“What can we do to accomplish the works of God?”
Jesus answered and said to them,
“This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.”

Nourishing your faith

1. Walking on water.  Jesus is almighty; you and I are limited. When something is possible, God will leave you to it, but when it’s impossible He will never ask you to do it because He knows you can´t. God works on the impossible and leaves the possible to you, but He continues to be at your side. Today, you and I must also “shorten distances”, we must build bridges, not walls. That’s why today I propose you think of three things you could do to shorten the distance between you and your family and friends. I am not asking you to cross the sea, but to use your creativity.

2. Looking for Jesus. His words are hard in this respect. He says, “you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled”.  Jesus is not a social worker or a politician on campaign, He came to give us life in abundance, to show us the way to Heaven. He asks us to work for eternity, to search for the food that endures for eternal life, which He himself will give us. We shouldn’t look for God for a miracle, we must look for him because we know He is God, simply that.

3. Nourish your faith. Seek to nurture and strengthen your faith. Seek to deepen your relationship with God and don’t leave your Christian spiritual growth aside. There are no excuses for this, there are plenty of books, videos, articles, seminars and so on. God wants to be God in your life and not a miracle worker.

Never forget that something good is on the way.

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
