Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke 21, 5-11
While some people were speaking about
how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings,
Jesus said, “All that you see here–
the days will come when there will not be left
a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.”
Then they asked him,
“Teacher, when will this happen?
And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?”
He answered,
“See that you not be deceived,
for many will come in my name, saying,
‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’
Do not follow them!
When you hear of wars and insurrections,
do not be terrified; for such things must happen first,
but it will not immediately be the end.”
Then he said to them,
“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues
from place to place;
and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.”
Nothing will remain
1. Some day. As you know, everything in this world will pass away; only God remains forever. As you journey through life, remember that what is present today may be gone tomorrow. Nothing in this world is eternal, only God is. Don’t forget that we’re just passing through this life, and each one of us is precious in God’s eyes. Keep moving forward, setting a course and leaving a mark, a meaningful mark. Many people have influenced and helped us along the way; now it’s our turn to do the same, always remembering that we’re just passing through.
2. Don’t be deceived. Never stop turning to the Word of God. The Lord chose you to be on His team. Follow Him faithfully, and don’t let yourself be misled by those who have fallen into a fanatical attitude within religion itself, attributing words to Jesus that He never said or manipulating others into doing things that are wrong. Don’t fill people’s minds with ideas that ultimately prevent them from returning to the Word of God, the sacraments, prayer, and helping others.
3. Great Signs. Throughout our journey, we will see great signs that will guide us and show us where to go. The Lord reveals His will to us each day and invites us to discover the best path to serve and to live. Have you discovered what God is calling you to do in this life? What are the signs that God is giving you to help you live that calling?
