Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 6, 53-56
After making the crossing to the other side of the sea,
Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret
and tied up there.
As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him.
They scurried about the surrounding country
and began to bring in the sick on mats
to wherever they heard he was.
Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered,
they laid the sick in the marketplaces
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak;
and as many as touched it were healed.
Recognizing Jesus brings healing
1. Cross to the other side. Jesus shows us by example that we’re not meant to stay in one place or remain comfortable. As Christians, we are called to move forward, to reach out to others, and not simply stay where things are familiar or easy. Like the disciples, we shouldn’t hesitate or become complacent. We, too, are called to go out and seek our brothers and sisters, rather than waiting for them to come to church or join our groups. Even if we face rejection, we must continue to go out with enthusiasm, because there are many people in need—many who feel alone and are searching for God.
2. Touch. The desire to touch Jesus’s cloak comes from the longing to be healed. However, true healing also requires knowing that we are loved. When Jesus heals, He does so with great tenderness and closeness. In the same way, we’re called to be near those who are suffering, offering comfort through our words, our gaze, or a gentle gesture. Healing is rooted in recognizing God’s love for us, and in reaching out to be touched by the Lord, allowing ourselves to feel His presence.
3. Heal. We must seek Jesus to experience His healing, so that we in turn can show compassion to others who are suffering. There are many people in the world who are ill or deeply hurting in their hearts. Some may have wealth but feel isolated and have no one to talk to; their loneliness causes them pain. Others may be filled with resentment, anguish, or even hatred, unable to find meaning in life—that is true poverty. Because there are people who need you, put your trust in God and strive to save lives by following Jesus and helping those in need.
Remember that something good is on the way! God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
