John 14, 7- 14

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 16, 15-20

Jesus said to his disciples:
“If you know me, then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip said to Jesus,
“Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time
and you still do not know me, Philip?
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.
How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?
The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own.
The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me,
or else, believe because of the works themselves.
Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever believes in me will do the works that I do,
and will do greater ones than these,
because I am going to the Father.
And whatever you ask in my name, I will do,
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.”

Know Him

1. See. To see is to understand, and to understand is to love. In this life, we come to know God gradually, often through our mistakes and suffering. It’s in those moments that we discover He never lets go of our hand—even when we fall or fail. We encounter God at our lowest points, reminding us that Jesus is not just an abstract idea, but a living presence among us.

2. Show us. One of our greatest challenges as Christians is showing others this living God. Many times, those within the Church become overly concerned with rules and regulations. We can act more strictly than the strictest gatekeepers. God calls us today to reveal Him to the world by being living witnesses. Sometimes, we Catholics get caught up in endless meetings and workshops, focusing on reading more books, while what society truly needs is genuine witnesses. Let’s have the courage to show Him today.

3. I will do. This passage reminds us of the power of prayer and the importance of living a deep, inner life with Christ. Ask the Holy Spirit for strength to protect your relationship and prayer life, because without prayer, nothing can be achieved. Let’s pray that Jesus will allow us to always enjoy His presence.

Remember that something good is on the way!
