Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 23, 23-26
Jesus said:
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin,
and have neglected the weightier things of the law:
judgment and mercy and fidelity.
But these you should have done, without neglecting the others.
Blind guides, who strain out the gnat and swallow the camel!“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You cleanse the outside of cup and dish,
but inside they are full of plunder and self-indulgence.
Blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup,
so that the outside also may be clean.”
Paying tithes
1) Tithing. Some people reduce life to paying bills, meeting obligations, and checking boxes. For them, everything seems to revolve around money. Ironically, those who cling most tightly to what they own are sometimes the least willing to share even the simplest gesture of kindness, such as offering someone a glass of water. I’m not saying you should be careless with money. Rather, don’t let your life become trapped in the constant desire to have more. Life is so much more than money or possessions. It’s about the choices we make, the good we do, and the awareness that, sooner or later, all of us need someone’s help. The kindness you offer others often finds its way back to you.
2) Neglecting the essentials. When you lose sight of what truly matters, you risk losing much more than you realize. That’s why it’s important to value what you have, appreciate what you do, and remain connected to the deeper purpose behind your choices. Return to your roots. Rediscover your center. Ask yourself again why you do what you do, and allow that answer to guide you back to what is essential.
3) Clean. There are areas of life that need to be cleaned, reordered, and renewed. Over time, certain habits, attachments, or ways of thinking stop helping us and begin to weigh us down.
Protect what is vital and learn to let go of what no longer gives life. On this journey, we must release what only leaves our hearts heavy, so that we can move forward with greater freedom and peace.
Never forget that something good is on the way! God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
