Matthew 13,18-23

Matthew-13,18-23

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 13,18-23.

Jesus said to His disciples: “Hear then the parable of the sower.
The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the kingdom without understanding it, and the evil one comes and steals away what was sown in his heart.
The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy.
But he has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away.
The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit.
But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.”

God sows

1- Let’s consider the seed. Jesus is that seed that someone sowed in your heart and that rooted deeply. It could be your grandmother or dad or mum who sowed Jesus in your heart. I remember grannies who have taught their grandchildren to pray, to talk to Jesus and the Virgin Mary. Also, Pope John Paul II who always saw his father on his knees praying the Rosary. In short, someone at some point sowed Jesus in your heart. This seed, that is Jesus, grows in you, together with you and will accompany you always. But let Jesus bear fruit, let him bear fruit with you – without him, we can’t do much.

2- The second issue is bacteria. One of the bacteria is activism and also narcissism. The devil plants pride in you, and that drives you away from reality and you burn that seed that is Jesus. You burn the seed with the same spotlight that points at you, because you want to be in the spotlight, you want to be the center of the universe, you want to stand out in everything.

3- But we must remember the fruit, the fruit of the one who works with the Lord and who knows what he has within him is the fruit of abundance. If you allow that seed that is Jesus to grow within you, it will lead you to give a fruit that satisfies multitudes, that quenches their thirst, that gives joy and strength. Could you tell me five concrete instances in which you produced fruit this week? If you can mention them, it means that you are caring for that seed, that you are watering it every day.
