Luke 12,13-21

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano
Luke 12,13-21

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 12,13-21.

Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.”
He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?”
Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”
Then he told them a parable. “There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest.
He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’
And he said, ‘This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods
and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!”
But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’
Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.”

Greed impoverishes

1)Share: If you do not know how to share you are considered por. It is important to know because our ability to share is what makes us rich in life. When you close yourself, the only thing you achieve is poverty. I refer not only to money but also everything in life. It is important to share your knowledge, experiences and lend your ears. Life was made to share and obtain richness with others not from others.

2)Nothing is guaranteed. There are people that are moved only by money, but I can assure you I have met a lot of poor people full of money in their pockets. I consider them poor because their life is full of sadness and loneliness where they are willing to buy friendship or company. There are things in life money cannot buy. I can assure you that material acquisitions can come or go, but one has to learn to withstand any circumstance, but the love of a son, the love of a life partner or the guidance of a friend is so strong that this makes the difference in life. So bet on this.

3) Be careful. We must learn to live life one day at a time. Money allows to live, but it is not our life. Do not negotiate with this or otherwise you will learn the hard way the hardships of life. There are things money cannot buy or solve. It is non-negotiable the affection from your children, the moments spent as a family, the conservations with your spouse, a chat with your best friend, conversations with God, moments spent with your parents, time spent for yourself. These are the most expensive moments in life, do not waste them.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And don’t forget heaven is our goal!
