Matthew 2,13-18

Matthew 2,13-18

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 2,13-18.

When the Magi had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him.”
Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt.
He stayed there until the death of Herod, that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi, he became furious. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi.
Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet:
A voice was heard in Ramah, sobbing and loud lamentation; Rachel weeping for her children, and she would not be consoled, since they were no more.

Joseph trusts.

  1. Flee. Joseph must run away from danger… from whatever or whoever can take Jesus away from him. Today we must run away from what can hurt us and destroy Jesus within us. Today you must escape from things that threaten your life and the way you live. Avoid anything or anyone who wants to enslave you – those things that threaten your family, your heart, your life project, your goals… Move away from whatever is endangering your happiness and peace of mind. What do you have to run away from today? Think about that! Seek the help of your Guardian Angel to be able to see the situation clearly; to identify that situation that is not good for you. There are times in life when you have to distance yourself from certain people and certain situations temporarily. You have to look for the ‘Egypt’ in your life, that place of calm and serenity. Search for the place which brings light and peace to you; where you can encounter Jesus once again. Seek peace of mind and not danger.
  2. Herod. Herod represents anything or anyone that can dominate you. There are internal and external ‘Herods’ that want to control you. There’s the Herod of pornography showing you an easy life of lust and pleasure. Or the Herod of power that seduces you, but when it gets hold of you, it traps you. It’s anything which tries to dominate and destroy you. There’s also the “Herod” that can be other people who manipulate you and abuse your trust, forcing you to kneel down and obey them.
  3. Killing. So many innocents end up paying the consequences of someone’s anger and rage! Today we also viciously kill others’ spirits with our hurtful comments and gossip. We hurt so many people and we make so many people shed tears because of our words and attitudes. Think about how many people you’ve hurt this year. Accept it, you and I are not as nice as we think we are. Roll up your sleeves and get to work to help the many innocent people who were put down and “killed” by your tongue and attitudes. Please learn to give life with your life and don’t “kill” others to feel powerful.

May God bless you and strengthen your heart and remember to look for the ‘Egypt’ that can soothe your heart.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Don’t forget: Heaven is our goal!
