Matthew 13:54-58

Matthew 13,54-58

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 13:54-58

Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue. They were astonished and said, “Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds? Is he not the carpenter’s son’ Is not his mother named Mary and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas’ Are not his sisters all with us’ Where did this man get all this?” And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house.” And he did not work many mighty deeds there because of their lack of faith.

My Father works

1) Work gives us dignity. Work helps us discover how much we can contribute to society and to our own life. Work allows us to stand up and face life with our own tools. Tiredness caused by work is a sign of effort and merit. It is the fight for a dream. Think of the many people who have faced so much to be able to own their house, their land, their car, and to be able to support their family. Work helps us to achieve things with effort and sacrifice … knowing that later, we will enjoy the harvest.

2) Work sanctifies us. Christians should give work a supernatural vision… look at it as that place or situation where we can encounter God. Your work is your Mass, where you offer Father God everything you have done. It is sacrifice in the sense of sacer (“sacred”) + faciō (“do, make”) “to make something sacred”.

3) Work encourages us because it is what helps us continue day by day…trying to accomplish our dreams and succeed in earning the livelihood for our loved ones. What a beautiful example that of St Joseph; who assumes an unexpected situation with total responsibility and supernatural vision. Today let’s pray to St. Joseph for those workers who struggle every day to support their family; to support their province or state, and to support their country. Let’s pray for those workers that leave their homes early to bring a piece of bread to their tables. Pray for those workers who must sit in an office for hours, or those who go out to knock on doors to sell a product that gives only pennies for a profit. Christ blesses and encourages all those workers today. He gives them the strength to continue. If you’ve got a job, give thanks to God. If you haven’t, ask God for the light and the strength so that you can always feed and support your family.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Happy St. Joseph the Worker day!

Your contribution help us to continue with our mission
God Bless You!
