Matthew 5,43-48

Matthew 5,43-48

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 5,43-48

Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same?
So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Be perfect

1) Love thy enemy: this love implies that you will not get along with everyone and there are many moments in life that these situations will present obstacles for you. This also will happen to you where you are the cause of the obstacles of others. We have to be mature and accept that in our lives, there are people that will not improve or help to make life better. You must accept this and unconditionally present your love to them. What does this imply? A supernatural love where you must pray, forgive and forget. Is it difficult? Of course, but I remind you this is an ongoing process that does not change immediately, it is slow.

2) The extraordinary: This is the lesson where we learn to integrate everything and everyone in our lives. Please do not leave things undone, because this will come back as a greater obstacle if you do not take the responsibility now. Also, we must learn for the past and continue moving forward. This will lead to a better and plentiful life once we have dealt with the situations we face today.

3) Perfection: To be perfect in a biblical sense, it is not the same as we know it today. It does not refer to the obsessive-compulsive perfectionists that we have inside ourselves. It refers rather to seek excellence in everything we do, with humility and honesty. The perfectionist seeks an ideal no matter what the consequences of the actions taken. Instead God invites you to seek excellence to the best of your abilities according to the possibilities you have.
