Luke 5,33-39

Luke 5 33-39

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 5,33-39

The scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus, “The disciples of John the Baptist fast often and offer prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same ; but yours eat and drink.”
Jesus answered them, “Can you make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?
But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast in those days.”
And he also told them a parable. “No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one. Otherwise, he will tear the new and the piece from it will not match the old cloak.
Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined.
Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins.
(And) no one who has been drinking old wine desires new, for he says, ‘The old is good.'”

Don’t mix the new with the old

1) John’s disciples. I’d like draw your attention to those who follow a path of penance and prayer for others. I’m thinking of the Discalced (barefoot) Carmelite nuns, the Benedictine monks, the Trappists, and so many other congregations that lead a life of prayer and sacrifice. Perhaps some of you who are listening to me don’t know that there are people who distance themselves from the world and devote their life to prayer for others; they pray for you and me. We don’t really pay attention to them; we don’t even remember that they are there, but it would be nice if you could google these orders of monks and nuns to get to know a little bit about them. They are an important part of the Church and thanks to them, many of us still remain standing. Today, I propose that we thank God for those who pray for us every day without even knowing us. And if you can, look into these orders and check them out, perhaps you’ll find a Monastery of enclosed Carmelite nuns near your home and you could visit them and thank them for what they do for us, for the Church, for the non-believers, and for everyone who is suffering.

2) The groom. There are moments in your Christian life that you will be full of joy; you will pray peacefully; you will have a particularly good disposition to go to Mass or pray the Rosary, and so on. But you will also go through moments in your life when it will be much harder for you to keep up. When you feel that the bridegroom has been taken away from you. It is important that you make time for moments of prayer, even if you do not feel like it. You can pray brief aspirations which are short prayers that we can repeat several times during the day, for example: ” It’s All yours” or “Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you”.

3) What’s new: Turn to this new person you’re becoming, don’t go back in time. Don’t constantly look back to reminisce… falling back into the past to re-live problems and negative aspects is harmful. Go to what’s new in your life, discover it, venture out, and keep on walking! Today, you can be a hero of your own life.
I propose that we pray today for the orders of contemplative life that constantly pray for us!
God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Remember Heaven is our goal!

Your contribution help us to continue with our mission
God Bless You!
