Luke 11,1-4

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.”
He said to them, “When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread
and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test.”

How important praying is !

1) Teach us: If you take a look at Jesus’ life you’ll find that He spent a lot of time in prayer. It is like breathing: everything we do is done by breathing… and in this case, Jesus teaches us to do everything by praying…So we must do both; two things at the same time. Amazing!

2) Active prayer: It is prayer carried out in everyday life. It is talking to God when you are studying and offering your study; it is praying with God when you are putting the pot on the fire for the noodles; it is taking every action up to prayer.
Like Saint José María did: while reading the newspaper he talked about it with God and commended things to Him. While I work, I pray.

3) Passive prayer: It is taking a moment to be alone with God. It is clearly talking to Him. It is turning off the mobile phone and just looking at Him.
Passive prayer is a meeting point; an area of encounter and dialogue with Christ. It is seeking silence and finding yourself in that silence.
You might say: ” I find the first type of prayer more comfortable than the second one…” We must do both.
The key is to pray, so that your prayer becomes life, and your life becomes prayer.
God-bless you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Remember heaven is our goal.
