Luke 11,47-54

Luke 11 47-54

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 11,47-54

The Lord said: “Woe to you! You build the memorials of the prophets whom your ancestors killed.
Consequently, you bear witness and give consent to the deeds of your ancestors, for they killed them and you do the building.
Therefore, the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles; some of them they will kill and persecute’
in order that this generation might be charged with the blood of all the prophets shed since the foundation of the world,
from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who died between the altar and the temple building. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be charged with their blood!
Woe to you, scholars of the law! You have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter and you stopped those trying to enter.”
When he left, the scribes and Pharisees began to act with hostility toward him and to interrogate him about many things,
for they were plotting to catch him at something he might say.

Hypocrisy kills

1) Grave Builder: Envy and competition can lead you to be aggressive, defensive, rough, and a closed person. It leads you to see the one next to you as a threat to your growth, and then you fall into your own coffin. You look for opportunities to “kill” your brother and you even celebrate when the other is doing badly. Well, maybe it might be that you do not really celebrate the other’s downfall, but frequently you are trying to get some benefit out of it. You are looking at what’s convenient for you at another’s expense; not a mutual benefit . Please, let’s not be hypocritical Christians: on Sunday when I go to Mass I repent and hit my chest, but during the week I ridicule my wife, or my husband, or my children, or my parents; you are “killing” them … don’t let the hypocrisy of others make you different, or make you wear a mask. On the contrary, be close to your brother.

2) The key to science: It is so hard when there is no dialogue and a person thinks only he is right. When people choose not to listen, life becomes difficult, even if you don’t believe so. When you think you have the answer to everything and believe that you are the only one with the truth, the only things that are achieved are injuries and death; because the person who tries to help or give advice gets pushed away, and in the end, nobody wants to say or do anything to help you. Don’t let this happen to you! Always be open to dialogue; listen, even if you think you are right.

3) Accusing him: Jesus makes enemies by saying this. When one tells the truth before “hypocritical” people, no matter how religious they may be, (because they were scribes and Pharisees – “super religious” people -)… they will always see you as an enemy and will seek to eliminate you. But it also happens that you perceive the one that tries to make you see the truth and reveals that you have a mask on, as an enemy. Defend the truth, but do not make enemies by your closedmindedness or recklessness. Win lives for God; being true to the way you are, and from your humility.
