Luke 9, 22-25.

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 9,22-25.

Jesus said to his disciples: “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.”
Then he said to all, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?”

Do not ruin your life

1)To suffer and be rejected: This is the situation that you will find yourself many times with people that surround you. This must lead you to remember that happiness is not a feeling or something that depends on others. Happiness is an attitude in life and a vision of life that solely depends on you. Suffering has two faces: internal and external.
The internal is the one that affects you the most since emotions and feelings come into play. It is something that you are unable to control and leads to anguish, to tears and penetrates deep in your heart. This causes all your expectations and wishes go down the drain. It is the clash with a reality that you feel will never change and extinguishes you.
The external is when people label you or present you as a person you are not. This is less painful because it comes from people who talk badly about you, but it can be the most lethal because it hurts your pride. This venom will only enter if you permit it to. This virus goes directly to your head. You begin to imagine things that are not and to overthink the future. This is what is dangerous, even lethal, because it can annihilate you completely. You may feel like nothing due to the pointing finger of others. Do not let this suffering enter your life. You are the gatekeeper. Once it enters, it very difficult to remove it. This leads to further rejection from others and yourself.

2) To give up: the antidote to this virus is to abandon yourself in the hands of God, knowing that there is a process of pain that will lead to resurrection. Your life is not condemned with suffering. Suffering is a step in the process to resurrection. You must learn this from life. You have to think that the pain that you have endured has led to learning, and you must take a new attitude towards life. If you continue with the suffering, the pain has not passed like Jesus on the cross, which was a step towards eternity. Please walk and live this time with spirituality. Ask Jesus for help to examine your life and to know that the suffering that is inside your heart will strengthen you rather than weaken you.

3) To win: Life is unique and short, and it is also simple. We are the ones that complicate it. Let what you really wish for in life be your motivation. Do not suffer about things that haven`t occurred or will never occur. This is a trap we set for ourselves. Seek peace and live life well not killing it with your thoughts and attitudes. Come on! Lent is a time for greatness.

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
