John 12,1-11

John 12 1-11

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 12,1-11

Six days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
They gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served, while Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with him.
Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.
Then Judas the Iscariot, one (of) his disciples, and the one who would betray him, said,
Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days’ wages and given to the poor?
He said this not because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief and held the money bag and used to steal the contributions.
So Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Let her keep this for the day of my burial.
You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.”
(The) large crowd of the Jews found out that he was there and came, not only because of Jesus, but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
And the chief priests plotted to kill Lazarus too,
because many of the Jews were turning away and believing in Jesus because of him.

Love heals!

1) Mary: hard times were coming for Jesus. Everything was getting complicated… and yes, Jesus was also a man. He takes refuge in the affection of his friends. He does not go looking for coffee or a “mate” or a good barbecue … Jesus goes to be filled with the love and affection of his family and friends. Let us imagine this: Jesus knows something hard is coming and he gets together with his friends because he needs to see the people he loves, his friends. How important are friends in hard times! How important it is to fill yourself with that deep love that people who love you, give to you. The truth is … that when you get together with people who contribute to your life, you come out with an inflated chest and you are capable of facing anything. I think that in these times of quarantine, affection surfaces. That grandmother who is missing seeing her grandchildren, that mother who is missing giving her children a hug and so on … Take care of those people who do you good, take care of your friendships, take care of the people who support you in good times and in bad times. And when you encounter crosses in your life, do not hesitate to look for them. Good friends do not judge, they are present.

2) Mary: she demonstrates that you have to give everything for those you love. She does not think about how much the perfume costs, she uses it. Take risks for the people you love, don’t go around calculating whether it suits you or not. Take risks, regardless of the outcome, take the risk. It is preferable to make a mistake because you did something for the person that you love, to not do anything and criticize. Those who criticize is because they never do anything. Mary took a risk and she did it with all her love; that sincere, simple but deep affection. Take time to realize during this Holy Week that the difficult moments in life do not come to those in greatness, they require the simplicity of saying, “Here I am, I am taking a risk for you and with you.”

3) Judas: in these days the figure of Judas will appear. A harsh image, he is one who likes material things, but his biggest crisis is that he lets others fill his head, but he does not know what he wants. How awful when you like money and you don’t know what you want for your life. You can lose everything. Take a risk today; you may not have to anoint anyone like Mary did, but perhaps you need to make a short call or send a message today to comfort and help that person who is going through a difficult time. Simply saying, “Here I am,” can fill their life with hope.

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And always remember, Heaven is our goal!
