John 20, 19-23

John 20, 19-23

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 20, 19-23

On the evening of that first day of the week,
when the doors were locked, where the disciples were,
for fear of the Jews,
Jesus came and stood in their midst
and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,
“Receive the Holy Spirit.
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them,
and whose sins you retain are retained.”

Spirit of peace

1) The gospel begins with : “…the first day of the week…” Here we see how Sunday begins to mark the lives of Christians; the followers of the living Christ. Sunday is important to us, not only because we relax from the whole week or because we can get up later to drink our coffee in peace…. Sunday is the Lord’s Day. Yes, we (unlike the evangelists and Jews) celebrate on Sunday, because we do not rest on Saturday as God the creator did. We rest on Sunday as we celebrate the resurrection! That is why on Sunday, our priority is the Eucharist; going to meet Him. I know that laziness attacks you and wants to take you, fight it! It is only for a moment … but Sunday is not reduced to just going to mass, it is something more. It is to be in the Lord’s presence throughout the whole day, because it is the Lord’s day. Keep Him in mind while cooking for the family; keep Him in mind while setting the table without protesting. Keeping Him in mind will bring joy while playing a little game with friends, while reading, etc. Keeping the Lord’s Day, will make that day the most peaceful, full, day of the week for you.

2) Peace: Only God can give you peace, filling you with Himself. On this Pentecost, let us ask God for inner peace: this peace that allows you to continue fighting for life and to keep on going, despite the difficulties. Peace is to continue trusting, even when some of us disappoint you. Peace is that which makes you happy when it seems that sadness wants to take over you. You have a lot to give, but before you are able to give, it is necessary for you to have peace.

3) Go !: Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us go out and be a missionary Church; to be Christians who show the tenderness of God. Yes, tenderness! Being missionaries with impact; a deep embrace, with closeness and simplicity in our lives. We are called to be listeners without judging; to be missionary Christians who show the Joy that only God gives. Today, I want to ask you to put us in your prayers, giving thanks because our mission, the “Digital Catholic Missionaries” celebrates 2 years today!
