Luke 1,39-56

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano
Luke 1, 39-56-fb

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 1,39-56.

Mary set out in those days and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah,
where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit,
cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”
And Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For he has looked with favor on his lowly servant;
from this day all generations will call me blessed.
The Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.
He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel ,
remembering his promise of mercy,
The promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”
Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home.

Mary lifts us up

1) On the road and in a hurry: She is full of youthful enthusiasm; She goes with illusion and enthusiasm because what She is experiencing is something extraordinary and marvelous, but She also knows that what is happening to Elizabeth is something that goes beyond understanding. Let yourself experience enthusiasm again. Your mission in this world didn’t end despite the difficulties or unexpected events. You have a mission! Do not let yourself be taken by depression. You have to go on and get better in a hurry. Don’t fool around nor let things keep going around in your head. You have the mission of carrying Jesus with your life as Mary did, you can do it. I know there can be spokes in the wheels: not getting a job, not knowing what will happen to your country, seeing difficult people and living with them, etc. We know well that all that exists, but don’t let it make you lose the joy of your mission because your mission is much greater. Do not let it take away your enthusiasm for life, because nothing and no one can take your life. Your life is unique and you can give it with great enthusiasm.

2) Jumping for joy: how beautiful this image is, to see how God touches the life of Elizabeth and the life of John, these two lives are touched by Joy. I know that joy is something difficult to experience on a daily basis. I am not referring to a smile or laughter, but to having a positive vision, to finding solutions to things, to take a leap into life, to live. Today ask Mary to help you to be joyful, to bring joy and enthusiasm for living to those around you. Don’t be a Christian who carries pessimism and sadness, you carry Jesus.

3) Happy: if we look at Mary, we understand that happiness is not having everything, happiness is knowing how to have Everything in your life. Today God wants to take you as you are. Don’t stop looking toward Heaven, seek happiness knowing that it is through struggle and humility that everything is achieved. Look up to heaven and remember that this life goes beyond everything you see around you. You need to aim for something higher. It is in knowing that you are small and in need of God where you find greatness. Mary takes you to Jesus. Today ask for joy to give, peace to fight and faith to continue.

May God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And always remember Heaven is our goal.

Your contribution help us to continue with our mission
God Bless You!
