Luke 17, 11-19

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 17, 11-19

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked, “Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.”

Express gratitude

1) Jesus passed by. I want to keep this image of a walking Jesus. Today, we have to be that Jesus who goes out, who seeks, and who travels. We should not wait around for the needy to come to us. Go out and look for the needy. If you are proactive in the search, you will never see their need. Jesus’s attitude makes me think and ask myself if I am just waiting for someone to tell me what to do or am I actively searching for those who need help. Am I witness to the needs of others or am I still concentrating on my own needs, on myself? This is why you must go out; look around, and realize that there is a reality different from your own. Not everyone and everything revolves around you. You are not the center of the world.

2) Purified. How many times do our miseries lead us to illness and to feeling impure? Today, your illness may be caused by something you do not accept or something you cannot forgive. Ask yourself what is making you sick and what is keeping you from enjoying your life. Ask yourself why you constantly feel like you are dragging a heavy weight behind you wherever you go? Present yourself before the Lord, so He can heal you.

3) He returned. Return to God and thank Him. He heals and frees us. Return to Him because I am certain there is something that you should thank Him for. In this life there is something beautiful that you have received and beauty that you have enjoyed and shared with others. Today, what would you like to thank Him for?

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Never forget Heaven is our goal!
