Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 9, 28b-36
Jesus took Peter, John, and James
and went up the mountain to pray.
While he was praying his face changed in appearance
and his clothing became dazzling white.
And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah,
who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus
that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem.
Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep,
but becoming fully awake,
they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.
As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus,
“Master, it is good that we are here;
let us make three tents,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
But he did not know what he was saying.
While he was still speaking,
a cloud came and cast a shadow over them,
and they became frightened when they entered the cloud.
Then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my chosen Son; listen to him.”
After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone.
They fell silent and did not at that time
tell anyone what they had seen.
To be transfigured
1) In prayer. If there is something we always find in Luke, the evangelist, it is that when Jesus has to make a decision, before the most important moments in his life, He prays. He speaks to God, to his Father. This is what is proposed to you today: that you may write or speak to God; that you may think about your reality and be able to tell Jesus what is on your mind and in your heart. Tell God about your reality without fear and without prejudice, because, in order to be helped, you should say “Lord: this is my reality, this is what I am”. Talk to God, tell Him everything, and don’t make any excuses. Let’s not turn prayer into mere requests; thanks and requests are also a part of prayer, but today, I suggest you speak to God and tell Him all about you, and listen to Him.
2) Moses and Elijah. There is an inner law which you must remember and respect, and it is that God’s will does not go against your happiness, it is a step towards it. But your path towards the happiness that God proposes to you is also marked by limits, it is like pruning the plants so that a new, beautiful stem and fruit grow strong and healthy. That law is imprinted in your heart and you must listen to it before every decision. But also, remember that your life is a prophecy for others, and you are a prophet of the new millennium. You might not be a prophet who preaches in the town square with the Bible under your arm; you are a prophet who touches hearts with your testimony and example, in a personal, fraternal, and close encounter.
3) Tents. On this second Sunday of Lent the proposal is that you should not forget that your life points to eternity. You and I will go through our own “passion and cross”, but the key to everything is Heaven. Give your all to achieve this, and when the cross comes your way remember we already know the ending, it is Heaven! Do not forget that Heaven is our goal! God bless you and be with you, in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
