John 10, 31-42

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 10, 31-42

The Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus replied, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these are you going to stone me?” The Jews answered, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you, but for blasphemy, because you, though only a human being, are making yourself God.” Jesus answered, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, you are gods’? If those to whom the word of God came were called ‘gods’ – and the scripture cannot be annulled – can you say that the one whom the Father has sanctified and sent into the world is blaspheming because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me. But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” Then they tried to arrest him again, but he escaped from their hands. He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing earlier, and he remained there. Many came to him, and they were saying, “John performed no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true.” And many believed in him there.

Many believed in Him

1.To Stone. In the path of life, we can go through many situations where we feel we are being stoned by others. They hurt us with words and attitudes, when they ignore us, when they make us feel an outsider. These are hard stones that hurt us. Sometimes, as well that, just because we think differently, others want to strike us somehow. We must accept responsibility because at times, we are the ones who lash out at others. We are not willing to talk or confront others.

2.Our father. Jesus continues to show us that we are God’s children, but if we let ourselves be led by sin, we become slaves. You belong to God and His love is so great that we become His children and as a result, we are free. There is a saying that we must not forget, “the one who loves you, sets you free and the one who wants to possess you, enslaves you”.

3.To believe. They believe because of the signs that Jesus shows, people will believe in you because of your attitudes and way of acting. Acting follows being. When I see your attitudes, I will be able to tell who you are.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Never forget that Heaven is our goal!
