Matthew 7, 15-20

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 7, 15-20

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing,
but underneath are ravenous wolves.
By their fruits you will know them.
Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
Just so, every good tree bears good fruit,
and a rotten tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit,
nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down
and thrown into the fire.
So by their fruits you will know them.”

Every good tree bears good fruit

1) Wolves in sheep’s clothing. Today, you and I must work on this, on being authentic. Our life must be shaped by who we are, by being honest and transparent. We cannot be two-faced or seek to take advantage of things or people. Neither can we appear falsely to destroy others. This happens to us even in the Church, as some use the fact that they belong to the parish or a church group to take advantage of others. So, be transparent and sincere.

2) The tree. You have a path to follow in life and the aim of your whole life is to bear fruit, and you will do so at the right time. Do not despair, be patient. For there to be fruit there needs to be a process. Are you clear about what you want to give us of yourself? When you are clear about this, work on how to achieve it.

3) By their fruits you will know them. Actions follow being and therefore your life will be understood according to your attitudes and not by your intentions. This is the struggle you will have all your life, since many times attitudes do not follow intentions, which leads to immaturity in life.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Always remember that Heaven is our goal.
