An Appointment with the Bible (XI)

by Carlos L. Rodriguez Zía
Bible

September is the month dedicated by the Church to the Bible, to remember its centrality in the life of a believer. A very good reason for a new appointment with the Word of God.

When looking for a synonym or a way to describe the Bible, the expression the Word of God or simply the Word is generally used.  It is also said that the Word of the Father illuminates, guides our way.  And, as we’re in September, the month devoted to remembering and highlighting the importance of the Bible in our lives, we turn to the thematic index, found in many of its editions, to see the references to the word.  The search in both the New and the Old Testament brought interesting answers to our attention, which, in this new appointment with the Bible, we share with the readers of Digital Catholic Missionaries.

So Moses stayed there with the LORD for forty days and forty nights, without eating any food or drinking any water, and he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

Exodus 34, 28.

Hear the word of the LORD, princes of Sodom! Listen to the instruction of our God, people of Gomorrah!

Isaiah 1,10.

Then the LORD extended his hand and touched my mouth, saying, See, I place my words in your mouth!

Jeremiah 1,9.

But speak my words to them, whether they heed or resist, for they are rebellious

Ezekiel 2,7.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.  All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race

John 1, 1-4.

Indeed, the word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart.

Hebrews 4,12.
