Next Tuesday, September 27, we will begin publishing a series of articles written by Father Thomas Trigo. He is an Opus Dei priest who was born in Spain in 1953. He is currently a professor of Moral Theology at the University of Navarra in Spain. We will publish articles from his work every other Tuesday. In the following, Father Trigo tells us what these texts are about.
These reflections are addressed to people who confess: ” I believe in God the Almighty Father”, but live restlessly; to those who pray “Our Father who art in Heaven”, but are uneasy, insecure, and burdened; to those who know that God is their Father, but are still worried, anxious, and tense, as if God were not really their Father; and to those who believe In God and love Him, but do not fully trust Him. They could be very happy, but they are not. And also, to so many people who, because they do not recognize God as their Father, find themselves alone and powerless when confronted with problems in their lives.
These are reflections, ideas, and comments that I have been gathering over time for my personal meditation. Some time ago I realized that I was part of that group of Christians that we could call “burdened believers”, and this prompted me to look to Scripture and spiritual authors for help in convincing myself, with the grace of the Holy Spirit, that trust in God must be absolute. We trust those who love us. We have great trust in those who love us greatly, but we can only absolutely trust the One who is Almighty and loves us madly. To perceive the holy madness of God’s love is the key to trust Him absolutely and be happy.
The ideas and reflections that have been useful to me might also be useful to others, and it is with this desire that I am publishing them. I hope they will help us all become like little children smiling peacefully in the Father’s arms.
Fr. Tomas Trigo
