God loves you: Every one of us is an only child for God

God Loves You

In spite of appearances, everyone can say these words in all truth: “God cares for me as if I alone existed in the world”.

Others, even knowing about God’s existence, think: “Ugh, there are so many of us in the world… God has other things to worry about. I don’t think he’s going to worry about my problems. In fact, it’s as if God were in one world, and I were in another. His power may be great, but I don’t see him acting. What I see is that I have to work, solve my problems and endure if a misfortune comes my way”.

In spite of appearances, everyone can say these words in all truth: “God cares for me as if I alone existed in the world”.

“God only knows how to count to one,” said André Frossard. For God there are no masses. Each of us is not an anonymous number in the infinite crowd of humanity. Each person is an only child for Him. God has nothing else to do but to think of, care for and love each of his children. This is what St. Therese of the Child Jesus expresses in a very simple way:

“Just as the sun shines simultaneously on the tall cedars and on each little flower as though it were alone on the earth, so Our Lord is occupied particularly with each soul as though there were no others like it”.

“You well know,” Jesus says to Gabrielle Bossis (1874-1950), “that every soul is for Me as if it were the only one on earth”.

Even though God has many children, He can be attentive to each one as if he or she were the only one. The most important thing for Him is you. And He cares about your most insignificant problems.

Or does He have a limited intelligence and a small heart?

Why do we insist on reducing His Wisdom and Love?

Although the number of inhabitants of the world may be in the billions, no one is forgotten by God for a single moment.

And that little problem I have now, or the big problem I may have tomorrow, is known to God, and He knows very well how to help me.

We can consider these words He said to St. Catherine of Siena as addressed to us:

“Daughter, forget yourself and think of me, and I will continually think of you.”

Or these others that Gabrielle Bossis heard:

“Do not waste your time thinking about yourself, am I not here to take care of you?”.

But if we do not have a personal relationship with God, if we do not talk to him, it is very difficult for us to understand that his love is so personal, so intimate. And we could come to imagine God as an impersonal, abstract, and blurred being. Talking to Him, treating Him as one treats a Father, the Friend who loves us most, praying… this is the key to “seeing” God’s power and tenderness, and trusting Him completely.

Thank you, Lord, because you have made me see that I am never alone, that you are always “watching over” me, because I am your child, and you would not be at peace if you did not keep me under your Fatherly eyes at all times.
