Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according Saint Luke 11, 47-54
The Lord said:
“Woe to you who build the memorials of the prophets
whom your fathers killed.
Consequently, you bear witness and give consent
to the deeds of your ancestors,
for they killed them and you do the building.
Therefore, the wisdom of God said,
‘I will send to them prophets and Apostles;
some of them they will kill and persecute’
in order that this generation might be charged
with the blood of all the prophets
shed since the foundation of the world,
from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah
who died between the altar and the temple building.
Yes, I tell you, this generation will be charged with their blood!
Woe to you, scholars of the law!
You have taken away the key of knowledge.
You yourselves did not enter and you stopped those trying to enter.”
When Jesus left, the scribes and Pharisees
began to act with hostility toward him
and to interrogate him about many things,
for they were plotting to catch him at something he might say.
Seek, change, and grow
1. Seek. We must examine our soul and search for what gives meaning to our life, but we must do this with total honesty and without lying to ourselves. It involves searching for what leads us to fall into weaknesses and that many times we blame on others. And what is more, often, to make a good impression, we are capable of lying and slandering others. It is time to stop blaming someone else and victimizing ourselves. It is time to see how many brothers and sisters we have ‘buried’ in our lives, leaving them aside because they have tried to help us or have pointed out our mistakes.
2. Change is seeing and understanding that it is never too late to be a better person. Whoever wants to change, can do so. In your life you will find many ‘prophets’ who appear to mark the way for you and also situations and occasions that reveal to you God’s will. Today, you have the possibility to change your life and the life of those around you.
3. Growth. By this I refer to growing together without destroying one another or imposing our beliefs on others. We are a pilgrim Church, a Church that walks together towards God. Growing entails trusting. Growing is opening up to others and letting them into our life. Growing demands that we accept our mistakes and take responsibility for them without looking to one side. Growing is contemplating the future without forgetting our present, and accepting our past. Growing involves being united, being Christians who see the best in others, and try to help one another. I dream of a united Church, in which there is no search for individual interests; our only interest should be to bring souls to Jesus. I invite you to dream that God makes your dreams come true. Let’s dream! Something good is on the way!
God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
