Luke 21, 34- 36

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 21, 34- 36

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy
from carousing and drunkenness
and the anxieties of daily life,
and that day catch you by surprise like a trap.
For that day will assault everyone
who lives on the face of the earth.
Be vigilant at all times
and pray that you have the strength
to escape the tribulations that are imminent
and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Be vigilant

1.  Dazed. At this time of the year, you must surely be dazed by so many things that have happened and those that you are going through, things that do not let you think or live calmly, that take away your freedom and perhaps even your will to live. In the Gospel, Jesus makes it very clear which those things that disturb your life are and among them are “the anxieties of daily life”. You should be attentive, but not anxious. Don’t worry because there is an infinitely loving and compassionate God who wants your good.

2. By surprise. You must be aware that you have only one life and you cannot let it get out of hand with your fast-paced lifestyle. Be cautious but learn to manage your anxiety and that desire to have everything under control. Don’t be thinking about the future all the time. Learn to live life meaningfully, knowing that tomorrow is an opportunity, not a burden. Keep on walking straight ahead, firmly, and slowly, because if you go too fast you will certainly stumble and then lose your way.

3.  Pray. Don’t ever stop praying, it is the key to our life. It’s all about learning to discern your path, listening to what God wants and has in mind for you. Prayer is your support in difficult times, it’s your relief and your consolation. Do not stop talking and listening to God. He knows how to give good advice.

Remember that something good is on the way! God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
