Mark 6, 53-56

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 6, 53-56

After making the crossing to the other side of the sea,
Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret
and tied up there.
As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him.
They scurried about the surrounding country
and began to bring in the sick on mats
to wherever they heard he was.
Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered,
they laid the sick in the marketplaces
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak;
and as many as touched it were healed.

Recognizing Jesus leads you to be healed

1. Cross to the other side. This is what Jesus does, He does not stay still. Christians have the obligation to go forth, to reach out to people and not remain where they feel comfortable. We must go out and do as the disciples did. Go out without delay and don’t be lazy! We must not be concerned if people slam the door in our faces. We must go out with enthusiasm and look for our brothers and sisters because there are many people who need God.

2. Touch. Trying to touch His cloak comes from need, the need to be healed. But to be able to feel that we have been cured, it’s necessary to feel that we are loved. And when Jesus heals, He does so with tenderness, with closeness. We have to show proximity and help people who are suffering, through our words, a look, a tender gesture. Healing comes from the recognition that God loves us and also by reaching out and touching the Lord – feel touched by him.

3. Heal. We must seek Jesus that we might be healed by Him to be able to go out and be compassionate with others in pain. There are a lot of sick people in life, and people who truly hurt in their hearts. There are many people who have a lot of money, but who suffer in their hearts because they have no one to talk to; they are lonely. And there are many people who despise life, people with a lot of pain in their hearts, resentment and anguish.  That is poverty. People who hate and do not know how to find meaning in life. Please follow Jesus and help save lives!

Remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
