Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 4, 38-44

After Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon.
Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever,
and they interceded with him about her.
He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her.
She got up immediately and waited on them.

At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases
brought them to him.
He laid his hands on each of them and cured them.
And demons also came out from many, shouting, “You are the Son of God.”
But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak
because they knew that he was the Christ.

At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place.
The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him,
they tried to prevent him from leaving them.
But he said to them, “To the other towns also
I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God,
because for this purpose I have been sent.”
And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

Inner healing

1. Fever. The illness Peter’s mother-in-law has can represent the illness of people who feel frustrated and angry as a response to things that can’t be resolved. She is feverish and in bed. Something like that can happen when you can’t solve problems in your life, you don’t want to get out of bed and just lying there you allow yourself to be led by an overactive imagination, creating delusions and seeing things that don’t really exist. This kind of feverish imagination defeats you and doesn’t help you understand or distinguish reality from truth. How many of us are feverish!

2. Pain and ailments. I think that you and I must take care of the people we’ve hurt. Because at times, what might make you happy is what ends up hurting others. But you should take charge of the situation and help others to heal. Jesus came to heal ailments because there are some illnesses that neither you nor I can heal. There are people who are beaten and hurt. You can’t go through life without hurting someone, but you can’t live without taking charge of who you’ve hurt.

3. The crowd. Many people, the crowd, have opinions about how you should lead your life. There are always people who have opinions about everything you do, but only we can define which the priorities are in order to reach the destination we’ve set for ourselves. Remember that you have a path to follow, you have to be and do what God meant you to be and do.  Maybe your decisions don’t make sense to others and even your closest ones don’t understand you, but that’s because they can’t see what you can see. So don’t let the crowd take hold of you, learn to set limits to those around you and make decisions for you and not based on others’ opinions.

Never forget that something good is on the way!

God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
