Luke 17, 7-10

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 17, 7-10

Jesus said to the Apostles: “Who among you would say to your servant who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here immediately and take your place at table’?
Would he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished’?
Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?
So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’

Servants

To serve. Jesus teaches us to be where we should be and do what we should do. Today Jesus reminds us that in life we shouldn’t fill ourselves with activities or do thousands of things to be saved. Rather, we should do what we are supposed to do and what is right for us. There are times when we load ourselves with activities, from our hearts and in good spirits… but they are not ours to do.

2. Complaints. We can neither complain nor victimize ourselves for what we do. It’s necessary to remember that in this life everything implies effort, struggle and facing what has to be faced. Don’t let victimization and complaint dominate you, because that makes the work and your obligations heavier and more difficult. As it adds more weight, you drag along your life instead of joyfully walking along.

3. Humble servants. God teaches you to live humbly. Remember that God appears in the tiny, ordinary things that happen every day, that’s why you have to be humble in life and serve with simplicity. Let’s not seek the spotlight of stardom, but rather seek to continue serving with love and enthusiasm, so that nothing and no one may prevent us from giving a service of love to others.  Jesus reminds us that that we should only seek his glory. Let’s seek to serve and, above all, with great humility.

Remember that something good is on the way!
