Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 1, 39- 45
Mary set out in those days
and traveled to the hill country in haste
to a town of Judah,
where she entered the house of Zechariah
and greeted Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting,
the infant leaped in her womb,
and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit,
cried out in a loud voice and said,
“Most blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me,
that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears,
the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed
that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled.”
Set out in haste
- Set out. Serving others should be a constant attitude in your life. Helping others is the DNA of the Christian, but it means helping without expecting anything in return and, above all, knowing that Jesus is in you. We’re not social workers, but rather we’re evangelizers who seek to help people to live in dignity, which is totally different. To set out without delay implies not having an ulterior motive when you help others and being perfectly conscious that you can neither manipulate nor influence others with your ideology. The sole implication is that of healing. When you help someone in their life, without a vested interest, you’re healing all their wounds and ailments of life. Do you help without self-interest? Have you been healed by being helped by others?
- Leaped for joy. A characteristic of those who help from God is that they transmit joy and hope. Analyzing this, I believe that, as a Church, many times we have shown lack of joy in helping, making bureaucracy prevail over hope, making structures condition the strength of the Spirit. Therefore, may you live with joy and enthusiasm, may you live with the capacity to surrender and make people enjoy living. Your life vision in Christ helps many and brings them happiness.
- Joy. The joy of living in God makes you aim to be happy. Being happy doesn’t mean that there are external conditions that allow you to feel that way, rather it’s your internal vision of the things that are around you that allows you to be happy in all circumstances, even in the face of adversity. Because happiness is a lifestyle and not a state. Being happy is a decision, not a condition. Happiness implies seeking and finding meaning in everything and not living meaninglessly. Joy comes from Jesus and makes you live life as a celebration, with a sense of purpose, so it’s up to you!
Always remember that something good is on the way!
