Luke 1, 57-66

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano
No. He will be called John.

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 1, 57-66

When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child
she gave birth to a son.
Her neighbors and relatives heard
that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her,
and they rejoiced with her.
When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child,
they were going to call him Zechariah after his father,
but his mother said in reply,
“No. He will be called John.”
But they answered her,
“There is no one among your relatives who has this name.”
So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called.
He asked for a tablet and wrote, “John is his name,”
and all were amazed.
Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed,
and he spoke blessing God.
Then fear came upon all their neighbors,
and all these matters were discussed
throughout the hill country of Judea.
All who heard these things took them to heart, saying,
“What, then, will this child be?
For surely the hand of the Lord was with him.”

He will be called John

1. Time. Everything comes in its own time. The hardest thing to learn in life is that everything has its time and its moment. You may have everything you need to take a big step in your life, but you need time. It’s like when you want to eat something delicious and you have all the ingredients but you lack the time to make the dish. Fight your anxiety. Don’t rush yourself and don’t be impatient about what is to come. Learn to wait and understand that everything has its time and process.

2. He will be called. We will always encounter people who will demand that we follow a tradition or continue doing things according to certain structures, using the famous phrase “it has always been done this way”. God shows you that He disrupts structures and reminds you that in life there will always be people who will want to mark who you are and what you will do. Learn to respect your life by respecting your identity and your mission.

3. The hand of the Lord. I want you to remember that if you put yourself in God’s hands He will never abandon you because your life is sealed in Him. You know there’s an end to your life story but if you let yourself be guided by his hand it will be a happy ending. Don’t be afraid! Because you’re not alone and God will never let go of your hand.

Remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
