John 1,29-34

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 1, 29-34

John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said,
“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
He is the one of whom I said,
‘A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me
because he existed before me.’
I did not know him,
but the reason why I came baptizing with water
was that he might be made known to Israel.”
John testified further, saying,
“I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from the sky
and remain upon him.
I did not know him,
but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me,
‘On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain,
he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God.”

The Lamb of God

1. Coming closer. How important closeness and presence are. Observe what you have to do and, above all, stay close to the people who need you and to those you need. Don’t isolate yourself and don’t let your daily work distance you from those who are essential in your life. Learn to be cautious with your time and personal space and share with people who really contribute to your life.

2. Know. No one can love what they don’t know. Once you get to know others, they cease to be unknown, and when you know them, you move on to the second step, which is to understand them. When you know people and understand why they are the way they are, you can love them, which is the third step. Because accepting what they are like and loving them you will find out how to help them so that they can fulfil their potential. So, first get to know them, then understand them and from that knowledge and understanding, love them, so that they can be truly fulfilled.

3. Testimony. It is through your spiritual life that you can give testimony of God, and, from that testimony, you can live in the fire of the Holy Spirit. Don’t lose your spirituality and take care of your prayer time and space. Because through your moment in the Spirit you can become a witness of God rather than a scholar of God.
