Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 6, 39-45
Jesus told his disciples a parable,
“Can a blind person guide a blind person?
Will not both fall into a pit?
No disciple is superior to the teacher;
but when fully trained,
every disciple will be like his teacher.
Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye,
but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?
How can you say to your brother,
‘Brother, let me remove that splinter in your eye,’
when you do not even notice the wooden beam in your own eye?
You hypocrite! Remove the wooden beam from your eye first;
then you will see clearly
to remove the splinter in your brother’s eye.
“A good tree does not bear rotten fruit,
nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit.
For every tree is known by its own fruit.
For people do not pick figs from thornbushes,
nor do they gather grapes from brambles.
A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good,
but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil;
for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks.”
A tree known by its fruit
1. You are not superior. Let it be clear to you that no one is more or less than anyone else, so it’s important to respect others. And don’t forget that the path we walk along in life may be bumpy but also satisfying, there are times when you can believe that you’re able to fight alone against the world. But don’t! Life is challenging and demanding, but it also comforts and teaches you. Look at the cross, that’s God’s greatest lesson.
2. Beam. Learning to look at oneself is the key to understanding others. No one is exempt from anything, and we all have something to work on. There are times when you and I fall into hypocrisy, believing that we can judge everyone, and not forgiving anyone. To get ahead you must accept your past, you must listen to your conscience; to face reality you must leave aside idealism and to live in peace you must face and accept your battles.
3. The goodness of the heart. The ultimate teaching of the gospel is that one expresses what’s in one’s heart. If you are a good person, you transmit goodness; if you’re not, then you spread evil. Goodness is what you should always work on, so that society doesn’t rob you of your kindness and the good things you can do. Don’t stop looking for kind people in your life; good friends nourish your soul and generate life. Don’t stop sharing with those who make you a better person because that is a gift from God.
Always remember that something good is on the way!
God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
