Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 24, 35-48
The disciples of Jesus recounted what had taken place along the way,
and how they had come to recognize him in the breaking of bread.
While they were still speaking about this,
he stood in their midst and said to them,
“Peace be with you.”
But they were startled and terrified
and thought that they were seeing a ghost.
Then he said to them, “Why are you troubled?
And why do questions arise in your hearts?
Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself.
Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones
as you can see I have.”
And as he said this,
he showed them his hands and his feet.
While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed,
he asked them, “Have you anything here to eat?”
They gave him a piece of baked fish;
he took it and ate it in front of them.
He said to them,
“These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you,
that everything written about me in the law of Moses
and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.”
Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
And he said to them,
“Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer
and rise from the dead on the third day
and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins,
would be preached in his name
to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things.”
They recounted
1. Recognize. Every time you go to Mass you recognize that Jesus is alive. That’s why for us the Eucharist is more than just the priest who celebrates the Mass. It’s the proclamation that He is alive and it means that your life is like that bread. It involves a process of breaking yourself and giving yourself to others. It’s thanks to the power of the Holy Spirit that you manage to live that intimate encounter that transforms you. To satiate the life of others you need to come together with Him.
2. Startled. Fear is always part of our life, and it’s a challenge to face it and overcome it every day. You can only overcome fear with faith and humility. We come into this world with fear, and we leave this world with fear, because fear is the constant challenge of life itself.
3. Opened their minds. Faith is not only a devotional event; it’s also an act of education of the intellect. We believe in order to understand and understand in order to believe. Faith is a path that demands not only devotion but also learning. That’s why it’s important for you as a Christian to study and to learn about your faith, because you can’t love what you don’t know.
Remember that something good is on the way!
The Lord bless you and guard in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
