Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 14, 6-14
Jesus said to Thomas, “I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
If you know me, then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip said to him,
“Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time
and you still do not know me, Philip?
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.
How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?
The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own.
The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me,
or else, believe because of the works themselves.
Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever believes in me will do the works that I do,
and will do greater ones than these,
because I am going to the Father.
And whatever you ask in my name, I will do,
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.”
The Way
1. Show us. Life is a journey, it’s a path of discovery. It’s about discovering yourself and accepting who you are, discovering your family and accepting it, and finally discovering your friends and close ones. Seeing reality always comes as a blow, but it’s from that reality that you’ll be able to build your life.
2. I am in the Father. To know Jesus is to know the Father. To know God is to enter into his mystery and, therefore, when one seeks God, one begins a journey of introspection and personal knowledge, for, as St. Augustine said, “Grant, Lord, that I may know myself that I may know you”. Because the more I know myself, the more I know God.
3. Serenity. Never stop seeking it in your search for knowledge of God. For this I will end with the “Daily Decalogue of Pope John XXIII” that helps me so much, I hope it will help you. Pope St. John XXIII had a list of reminders he would read every morning to help him live a better life. They were sort of personal rules he wanted to live by.
1. Only for today, I will seek to live the livelong day positively without wishing to solve the problems of my life all at once.
2. Only for today, I will take the greatest care of my appearance: I will dress modestly; I will not raise my voice; I will be courteous in my behavior; I will not criticize anyone; I will not claim to improve or to discipline anyone except myself.
3. Only for today, I will be happy in the certainty that I was created to be happy, not only in the other world but also in this one.
4. Only for today, I will adapt to circumstances, without requiring all circunstances to be adapted to my own wishes.
5. Only for today, I will devote ten minutes of my time to some good reading, remembering that just as food is necessary to the life of the body, so good reading is necessary to the life of the soul.
6. Only for today, I will do one good deed and not tell anyone about it.
7. Only for today, I will do at least one thing I do not like doing; and if my feelings are hurt, I will make sure that no one notices.
8. Only for today, I will make a plan for myself: I may not follow it to the letter, but I will make it. And I will be on guard against two evils: hastiness and indecision.
9. Only for today, I will firmly believe, despite appearances, that the good Providence of God cares for me as no one else who exists in this world.
10. Only for today, I will have no fears. In particular, I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful and to believe in goodness and the Providence of God. Never forget that something good is on the way. God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
